We wanna thank Pema's dad Grandpa John for taking us a beautiful adventure to the island of Java to visit the oldest and most amazing Buddhist temple/monument built sometime in the 13th century. It is called Borobudur and it is in the south central part of the island near the city of Jogjakarta. It is set in a magical jungle surrounded by green lush mountains and coconut trees. It is totallt covered by motif carvings telling the story of the life of Buddha and other historical figures of the time, truly amazing artistic spectacle. We spent 3 days in the area visiting different sites like Prambanan, the Hindu Temple down the road, built around the same time and equally as impressive. They are both now World heritage sites and are being restored from earthquake damage from some years ago. Grandpa John, being a Vipassana teacher for many years and traveler wanted to share with us something special from the lineage that he is rooted in and happens to be in our backyard. One of the many great things about living in Asia, being surrounded by so many ancient spiritual cultures. Thanks John
